Wakin'up ain't easy

Top 'o the mornin to you friends! Mom & Dad played a little trick on me the other morning and snuck some video of me while I was workin' out the cobwebs after a night of slumber. I usually wake up pretty easily, but on this particular morning I was so sleepy I didn't even notice dad standing there with the camera until he said "good morning"!

In case you were wondering what I do in the morning when I wake up, well now you know. Most of the time I just rub the sleep out of my eyes and get right to practicing my bubble blowing, squeaking and talking. I haven't figured out how to get my words to sound exactly like mom & dad's yet, but I'm getting close on a few. I'm pretty sure I'm going to figure it out now that I have some TEETH to use. Yeah, that's right, I have teeth now. If you don't believe me, just stick your finger in my mouth the next time you see me and I'll prove it to you. :)

Dad is telling me that it's time to get ready to go run some errands so I better sign off.

l8er friends,
little jake

A New Favorite

I am not sure if it was Ben, Jerry, or their collective genius but they have done it...they have created something better than my all-time favorite Phish Food. Imagine Whirled Peace is Caramel and Sweet Cream Ice Cream swirled with fudge peace signs and toffee cookie pieces. Yummy! -Nikki

Bubble Toes

i wonder if this is how jack johnson got his inspiration for his song Bubble Toes...

blue eyes

Jacob and I have been enjoying the beautiful weather - we are averaging about two walks per day - he can't be outside enough! We're going to have to get very creative at the next rain day.

splish splash

hey all. not much going on this week but thought i would drop in and say hi. this is my favorite time of day...bath time. i just sit back, relax, and calgon takes me away. well, not really calgon. my bath products are for the most part all natural and free from fragrances and dyes. mom calls me "high maintenance". like mother, like son, i guess. you'll notice my Mohawk - dad gives me one at the start of every bath. so anyhoots, mom is taking me to a class today. i might meet some other kids. and this weekend, she is going back to work so dad and i are having some man time. he told me he has all kinds of fun stuff planned. i asked if we could take his Harley out for a spin but he just laughed and said, "someday, jake. someday". i'll be sure to keep you posted. love, jake

Circle Me Burt!

I think this is one of the cutest pictures of Jacob so far. He seems like he's grown so much in just the last month. After I had a very long night (two feedings and not able to sleep due to the horrible dragon noises that Scott was making) he lovingly got Jacob up this morning. They had a morning chat and he got him changed and dressed - into this outfit! Grandma J picked this up for him awhile back and it seemed really big. I couldn't believe it when he brought him in with this outfit on!

Submit your caption

One of our favorite things to do is come up with captions for photos of Jacob. "MOM! Stop taking pictures! I'm not wearing any pants!" Your guess as to what he is thinking?

Book Worm

A shout out to Grandpa and Grandma Sinclair! Thanks for the Mother Goose box set. I'm a big fan of Mother Goose. Dad has to learn the tunes though because he tried READING the books to me but Mom told him he has to SING them! I am pretty sure Dad is the next American Idol. He'll probably audition with a Mother Goose mix. Oops. I am supposed to be napping. Gotta go. Love, Jacob

Signing off from Lake Julia

Well folks, this is my last blog entry from Lake Julia until next month. We're packing up and heading back to Rochester today. I'm sure Melly and Luna are excited for me to get home. I'm going to miss all of the birds, chipmunks, and trees but Mom said she is going to find some good trails for us to take walks on. Unfortunately our town home complex is a little Truman Show, if you know what I mean, so we'll probably have to drive to the state park. I'll check in later this week. Ciao Ciao for now. Love, Jacob

Hanging out with Mom and Dad

One fish, Two fish, Red fish, Big Fish

I must admit that this story might be hard to believe. I can hardly believe it myself.
About midnight last night I woke up with a mad hankering for some milk and momma took care of that. I usually go back to sleep after that feeding, but I just wasn't that sleepy. Grandpa had been talking about midnight being the best time to catch big fish off the dock, so I decided to give it a try. Ernie was up too, so I grabbed a pole and Ernie carried the net and we headed down to the lake to try to catch "Walter".
It was a perfect night. The air was cool and crisp and the lake was as smooth as glass. I tied on one of Grandpa's lucky lures and tossed it out as far as I could. Not too fast, and not too slow, I reeled in the line and then WHAM! A fish bit my lure! I knew it was a big one right away, and I had to fight hard to keep it from pulling me into the lake. I fought it for at least an hour and Ernie stayed right by my side the entire time. Finally, I pulled it up to the dock and Ernie scooped it out of the lake. Can you believe how big it is?!?
Actually, this is a bit of a fish tale. I don't really know how to fish yet. Grandpa did all of the work, but we thought it would be fun to show you just how big she really was. The big one was 6 pounds, 25 1/2 inches long. Grandpa says her name is Bertha. She's Walter's sister I guess. We snapped a few pics and then we let her go back home to the lake. Hopefully I'll be able to catch a fish this big some day.

Dialogue with Jacob

As I was taking these pictures I was laughing because they seem to capture what Jacob might be thinking. "What did you say, Mom? You want me to roll over? Hmm. Well, let me think about this. I love getting to my toys, but it is a lot of work. Aw, geez. Let me rest for a minute. Okay, here I go. AUUUUGGGGH! I get so mad when I get stuck! Okay. There. That's a lot of work but at least now I have my ring."

Jake is quite the entertainer. He is figuring out so many new things. He laughs and makes his favorite noises all the time (including his fake cough). He's into reaching for things and loves to feel different textures. We've thrown the feeding schedule out the window and I am back to feeding him whenever he is hungry. Because of his reflux he seems to do better with a couple more meals but in smaller quantity. This means I'm back to one or two feedings in the night, but that is okay. He's averaging 3-4 hours between feedings which is tolerable. It has been great being at my Mom and Dad's - I have been able to get out and have lunch with a couple of my friends and I enjoy having my Mom and Dad around to talk to and hang out with! There seems to be so much to keep Jacob entertained as well. I suppose Rochester has plenty of things to offer - I just need to seek out the parks, trails, and Mom's groups when I get back to town. We miss Dad, though so we're super excited for him to to get here on Friday.

Lumber Jacob

Greetings from Lake Julia! Things are going great. We've had very nice weather and I have been VERY busy. I take Ernie for a walk every day. Grandma took me for a walk in the Baby Bjorn the other day and I got SO sleepy I just couldn't keep my eyes open. Yesterday we found a turtle in the middle of the driveway. We had to take him back to the pond. I watch and listen to the birds, smell Grandma's flowers, and watch Grandpa fix his tractor. I went for a ride in the pontoon yesterday. Don't worry DNR, I do have a life jacket. This picture was taken right before I went to sleep in Mom's sling. Looks like another nice day today. I will try to get some more pictures posted later - right now I have a chipmunk that I need to say hello to. Love, Jacob

This is how I roll...

Mom and dad are always bugging me about not getting enough tummy time. To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of this whole exercise at first, but it's kind of fun now. I decided that I might as well just practice on my own once in awhile instead of mom and dad always having to flip me over, but I just could NOT figure out how to roll from my back to my tummy.

Well, about a week ago I was laying around playing under my gym and, EUREKA! I realized that if I just grab my toes and lean to the side a little bit then I roll right over! It took a little practice, and I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm an EXPERT at this rolling over thing just yet, but I'm pretty good at it. And to think, just a few months ago I was just a fetus. A fetus! Man, sometimes I even impress myself.

Anyhoo, that's the news from Lake Julia. Ciao for now. -Jacob

Jacob the Swimmer

Hello friends. I hope everyone is enjoying the spring weather!

This video is a few weeks old...it's from the weekend that we met up with the Sinclair clan in Ames, Iowa to celebrate Grandma Sinclair's birthday and shoot a family picture. We stayed at a hotel with a swimming pool and mom and dad let me going swimming with them. I don't really know how to swim yet, and it was a little bit scary, but it sure was fun! And check this out, I even went all the way under the water! No seriously, I did. Auntie Sarah even got it on video (the part where my lip is quivering is because I was cold, not because I was scared, duh).

So anyway, I'm a swimmer now. I'm not sure what I'm going to try next. Dad has been talking a lot about this thing called fishing, so I'm thinking I might give that a try.

Enjoy the video! TTFN. -Jacob
