Owin and Jacob

I'm a bit behind in my blog update...imagine that. Last week my friend Kris and her son Owin (2 1/2) and new baby Olive (3 mos) came up from Rochester and spent the day with us. We had a great time catching up and Owin and Jacob had a wonderful time at the park and the pool. Olive is just a sweet pea and it was fun to meet her for the first time.

Jacob is enamoured by Owin and like to do everything that he does. The last picture is depicting Owin showing Jacob how to lay down and snore. The other interesting thing is that Jacob doesn't like to hold on to anyone's hand for very long. However, he didn't mind hanging on to Owin's hand and at one point insisted on it. Cute.

The pool is closed for the season and although we can't wait for summer to roll around again, we're looking forward to the fall. Jacob has his Vikings jersey hanging in his closet...ready for game days.

On another random side note, we'll be in a different townhome by October 1st. It is literally a couple of blocks away from where we are now. Did you really think we'd stay in one place for more than a year? I seriously think we've moved more in the last five years that some people do in a lifetime. Anyway, all good things.

St. Paul Triathlon

August 23rd was quite possibly the most perfect day in history for the St. Paul Triathlon. Although the early morning was a bit brisk, as the sun came out it warmed up nicely with hardly a breeze. Due to absolutely zero training and a back injury on my part, I am hoping that next year I will be in the water and not standing on the beach. Thankfully, Scott filled in for me for the swim leg of the team event and went on to finish his bike and run portion. Way to go, guys!

Ready, Set, Go!

Grandma J. always had a new trick for Jacob to learn. This weekend it was saying "Ready, Set, Go!" Although I didn't capture it on camera she showed him how to get into the ready position with his hands on his knees. This kid's got a great arm, too. Who needs Favre when you could have Sinclair?

First visit to the Children's Museum

He loved it!

Unfortunately, today Jacob was the statue.

Jacob's new do

Jacob got his floppy locks cut off today. I apologized to the stylist in advance, completely prepared for tears and protest but much to my pleasant surprise (and I'm sure to the stylist's as well) he sat through the entire haircut like it was no big thing. At first he didn't want to let go of my hand but as soon as he got the job of being in charge of the spray bottle he completely forgot about needing my hand. Handsome little man if I do say so myself.

Pure Joy

We became members of the Minnesota Zoo this year. We've been there quite a bit but this the first time it was actually hot and Jacob got to play in the fountains. He wasn't expecting one to hit him in the face and thank goodness for the tractor that drove by (notice immediately after he is soaked he points to the left) otherwise I am sure he would have been crying as he came running back to me. I think I captured surprise more than anything.

Jacob Sit! Jacob Speak! Jacob Stay!

As soon as your kid starts speaking, singing, or doing tricks it is hard to resist asking them to perform repeatedly. Sometimes I feel like I should have a treat in my hand to reward good behavior. In all seriousness though, how can you not want to hear him say "Sarah" over and over again. It is so darn cute. Here are some of his tricks - one of my favorites is his rendition of Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye.

Naked Lion Tamer

Pine Ridge

1. Noah and Grandma having story time.
2. Hayden and Jacob hanging with Uncle Tom.
3. Jacob and Grandpa sharing some cherries. Yum!
4. Attempting Polish Horseshoes. I think we won.
5. From left to right: Scott, Nik, Jacob Sinclair, Brent, Sara, Noah, and Hayden Sinclair, Lin and Doug Sinclair, Rebecca, Robert, and Weston Ringer, Sarah and Tom Barntsen. What a great lookin' group!
6. We had to hide out in the bushes while they attempted to get Jacob to cooperate for a pic with his cousins and Grandma and Grandpa. Seemed to work just fine if he didn't see Mom and Dad. Nice.
7. Our newest nephew, Weston Ronald Ringer.
8. "No, Mom...I am not killing the frogs. I am just putting them in the net."

We spent a few days at Pine Ridge resort on beautiful Deer Lake in Grand Rapids. Although the weather was less than "great cabin weather" we still had a nice time catching up with family, relaxing (as much as you can relax with a 19 mos old) and playing games. Sarah and Tom so graciously shared a cabin with us - and for three mornings woke up much earlier than anyone should have to while on vacation. Scott spent a greater part of the long weekend studying for his GMAT exam. We ended up leaving the resort a day early - I think it was hard for Scott to think about math problems while staring at the lake thinking..."I could be fishing". We are already looking forward to next year's north woods adventure!
